Uninstall AnyDesk, Remove Shell Association

When uninstalling AnyDesk on Windows you may be prompted with the following notice: AnyDesk has been removed. Some elements could not be deleted. You can try to delete them manually. Shell association (*.anydesk)

 

 

This article covers some residual locations where AnyDesk could be after uninstallation.

 

AnyDesk Uninstall Residual Directories

After uninstalling AnyDesk you may have residual directories containing files that may be removed. You may manually delete the following directories:

  • C:\ProgramData\AnyDesk
  • C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\AnyDesk
    • Where %userprofile% is your username.
  • C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Temp\ (search and remove any AnyDesk files)

 

AnyDesk Uninstall Residual Registry Entries

WARNING: Altering your Windows Registry should only be done if you have a current working backup and are aware of the risks.

After uninstalling AnyDesk you may have residual registry entries that may be removed. You may manually delete the following registry entries:

  • Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.anydesk
  • Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AnyDesk-#####
  • Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\MuiCache\
    • Search and remove AnyDesk entries there.
  • Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.anydesk
  • Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\RegisteredApplications\
    • Search and remove AnyDesk entries there.
  • Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Media\AnyDesk-#####

You may also simply search the entire registry for “anydesk” entries. As with the above, remove with extreme caution and at your own risk!
