Avada Critical Error, Can No Longer Edit Page
Just had a single page scroller website designed for a client. I applied my final revisions only to have the backend editor within Avada disappear. Within the Revisions screen element it displayed a Critical Error has occurred on this site.
Pardon the brevity of this article. I’m simply publishing this on my site so that I can recall how I fixed this issue should it occur again on another site.
Solved, Restore the Avada Editor
Turns out I had over 290 revisions on this page. WordPress, the Avada theme or the Server didn’t like this. Once I removed some of the older Revision entries the editor was restored with no loss of data.
I did some more research and there is no known limit to the number of revisions that WordPress will store. However, clearly there is some sort of limit. At least perhaps with the Avada theme or my web hosting provider.
Limiting WordPress Revisions
Access your web server and edit your wp-config.php file, locate the following line:
/* Add any custom values between this line and the “stop editing” line. */
Under that line add the following definition:
define( ‘WP_POST_REVISIONS’, 10 ); //limits post revisions to just 10, adjust as needed.
To prevent variable already defined errors in case some installed and activated plugin conflicts, use the following code check (again, updating 10 to any numerical value you want):
Alternatively, you can disable ALL post revisions using the following code:
define( ‘WP_POST_REVISIONS’, false ); //disables post revisions completely
