Permanently Stop the Windows Widgets Service on Windows 11
A look into my running Processes section within Windows Task Manager revealed that the Windows Widgets service is still running despite having removed it from the Windows 11 Taskbar.
This article contains a script that should disable the Windows Widgets service completely on Windows 11.
Uninstall Windows Widgets Service
Open Windows PowerShell with Administrator rights and enter the following commands, one at a time:
Get-AppxPackage *WebExperience* | Remove-AppxPackage
winget uninstall -id 9MSSGKG348SP
Then restart your PC.
Disable Windows Widgets Service
Alternatively you may try running the following command also with Administrator rights:
reg add “HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Dsh” /v “AllowNewsAndInterests” /t REG_DWORD /d “0” /f
You can also use Group Policy Editor on non-Home editions of Windows to apply this value under Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Widgets, then set “Allow Widgets” to “Disabled“.
Restart your PC.
