Remove Share from Windows 10 Context Menu

, ,

As if you needed another “Share” button added to your life. Windows has added one to the Windows 10 Context Menu. Not to worry, for within this article I will show you how to quickly remove it.

Open the Registry Editor by pressing the Windows Key (your start menu will appear) type “regedit” and hit the Enter key. Before continuing, ensure you have a recent registry backup or Create a System Restore Point.

Remove Share Content Menu Item

Within the Registry Editor access the following key (TIP: you can copy and paste this into the registry address bar):

  • Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

Within this key you will find a sub-key called ModernSharing. Just delete the ModernSharing folder and you will no longer see the “Share” context link when right-clicking on anything.

Restore Share Content Menu Item

  1. Go to the same key path as previously mentioned: Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
  2. Right-click on ContextMenuHandlers > New > Key
  3. Name it: ModernSharing
  4. Double-click the empty string you see under the ModernSharing key (right side of window) and set the value to {e2bf9676-5f8f-435c-97eb-11607a5bedf7} which will restore the “Share” right-click context menu item.
