Allow Avanan to Email from Client Domain
Are your client email Restore requests are being sent to your spam folder? Chances are their domain DNS SPF record needs to be updated.
Because Avanan inserts itself into the outbound mail flow to handle these requests, those Restore request emails originate from Avanan’s cloud IPs instead of your client’s primary mail server (like Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace).
If the client’s DNS doesn’t explicitly authorize Avanan, receiving servers will flag it as an SPF failure, thus sending the Restore request email to spam.
Allow Avanan to Email from Client Domain
If you manage a standard Avanan deployment and want a straightforward, transparent fix, you need to append Avanan’s global static mechanism to each client’s existing SPF record.
Avanan’s Static Include String: include:spfa.cpmails.com
How to Implement
- Log into your client’s DNS hosting provider (GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Route 53, etc.).
- Locate the existing TXT record starting with v=spf1.
- Insert the Avanan string before the final alignment mechanism (like ~all or -all).
- Example, update for a Microsoft 365 Client:
- Before: v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com ~all
- After: v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com include:spfa.cpmails.com ~all
- Example, update for a Microsoft 365 Client:
Warning: Avanan’s static include maps to multiple global IP blocks. While the mechanism itself only counts as 1 DNS lookup against the strict RFC 7208 limit of 10, always verify your client’s total lookups using a tool like MXToolbox before saving. If they are already hovering around 8 or 9 lookups due to third-party CRMs and marketing tools, adding this could trigger an SPF PermError.
