Use Google Maps with Screen Off on Android

, ,

While traveling with Google Maps providing navigation I discovered that I could not sleep the screen without Google Maps navigation closing. I would then have to restart Google Maps navigation each time I opened the screen. In short I believe this is due to the power settings for Google Maps app on my Android phone.

Note: This article is intended for my use only and simply serves as a mental refresher.

SOLUTION: I advise putting the Google Maps app under the “Never sleeping apps” located under “Battery and device care” section of the Settings menu. After the trip, it is advisable to undo this to help conserve battery while not in use.

Note, your “Location/GPS” communications needs to always be on in order to obtain directions while traveling. Granted this should be obvious but mentioning it here just in case.
