Use Google Maps with Screen Off on Android

, ,

While traveling with Google Maps providing navigation I discovered that I could not sleep the screen without Google Maps navigation closing. I would then have to restart Google Maps navigation each time I opened the screen. In short I believe this is due to the power settings for Google Maps app on my Android phone.

SOLUTION: I advise putting the Google Maps app under the “Never sleeping apps” located under “Battery and device care” section of the Settings menu. After the trip, it is advisable to undo this to help conserve battery while not in use.

Note, your “Location/GPS” communications needs to always be on in order to obtain directions while traveling. Granted this should be obvious but mentioning it here just in case.

I have an S20FE and the maps app does not show as an option to add under never sleep. I can’t find a solution to this at all – if you have any suggestions I’d appreciate it.

Looks like this setting is either located elsewhere or not at all on certain Galaxy phones. If I find an answer to your question I will be sure to update and notify you Ria.
